Summary

Monitor and/or reconcile assigned general ledger accounts of a complex nature, process complex accounting activity, resolve variances, and/or document procedures to ensure accuracy of accounting information and/or financial reports, and/or compliance with established rules and/or regulations. Provide functional advice and/or training to less experienced accountants.

Description

This position is responsible for the administration of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' regulations and policies affecting payments to Medicare Part A providers located predominately in a 16-state region. Significant responsibilities include establishing interim rates to closely approximate providers' current reimbursable costs and computing timely tentative settlement amounts for providers' as-filed cost reports. Other responsibilities include maintaining the Provider Statistical and Reimbursement Reports (PS & Rs), testing of claims payments made in the Fiscal Intermediary Standard System (FISS), and maintaining the System for Tracking Audit and Reimbursement (STAR).

Required Education:

- Bachelor's degree Accounting OR
- Related degree with 24 semester hours in accounting. (Anyone hired prior to August 1, 2008 in an accounting position only requires 21 semester hours of accounting.)

Required Work Experience:

- Five years of accounting experience.

Skills and Abilities:

- Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, practices and procedures.

Understanding or Knowledge of Audit and Reimbursement and Medicare Cost Report.

Ability to obtain data for research.

Ability to work independently.

Superior and professional communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively handle provider, CMS, and internal inquiries.
- Possesses excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills.

Required Software:

- Microsoft Office.

Preferred Software Skills:

- Expert in Excel.
