Job Summary

Responsible for operation and first-line maintenance of medical cyclotron and auxiliary devices and systems (e.g., targets, RF, vacuum, power supplies, detectors, extraction systems, ion sources) in cooperation with the local PETNET, Inc. engineer and vendor field service engineers to reliably produce radioisotopes for the positron emission tomography radiochemistry facility. Performs preventive maintenance and repair of various chemistry apparatus and also designs and manufactures new small laboratory devices as needed. Responsibilities will also include monitoring facility infrastructure (such as power, chiller, air-conditioning, humidifier) function, provide first-line response for system malfunction, coordinate vendor service engineer and campus facility services responses, and planning and coordination of facility upgrades and new instrument installation with industry engineers, campus facility services, and university architects. Ensures the documentation of maintenance and QA activities. Operates under the general supervision of the Molecular Imaging Ligand Development Program Director.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, engineering technology, or a related field and one year of experience.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Ability to rationally troubleshoot complex technical (mechanical, electrical, chemical) problems, taking into account the full radiopharmaceutical production system (cyclotron target through associated delivery systems and downstream remote synthesis and purification devices). Ability to attend to details and perform in a meticulous, organized manner, organize and manage multiple tasks and projects under deadlines. Ability to read and correctly interpret various engineering documents (schematics, wiring diagrams, piping diagrams). Ability to consistently perform all preventative maintenance per SOP's with no external support and to document activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience handling radioactive materials and equipment and an understanding of radiation safety precautions and associated Federal regulations. Physics, electronic circuitry or electrical engineering design, and/or AutoCAD experience. Experience with particle accelerator operation and maintenance and/or cyclotron technology (such as high vacuum, ion sources, radiation, magnets, electronics) and control systems.

Working Conditions / Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to radioactive materials, moving mechanical parts, fumes and/or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Heavy lifting, bending at the waist, crouching and squatting will be required.
