Role:

The Deduction - Team Lead role is an integral role within both the Vital Proteins Finance & Accounting team and as part of the whole Vital Proteins organization. The role is responsible for installing a strong process around trade-related and over, short & damaged (OS & D)-related deductions. The role will then directly, and through leading a team, review, audit, and clear customer deductions taken as payment for Vital?s various trade programs and OS & D process flow. The Deduction ? Team Lead at Vital will have a strong understanding of our customer trade spend activity and how each customer deducts for various trade programs. This role requires a detail-oriented and process-oriented individual with a clear understanding of how to review and audit each deduction to ensure the amount deducted for is valid and accurate. Additionally, the Deduction ? Team Lead will play a key role in maintaining our actual trade spend database to facilitate reporting actual trade spend by customer and SKU. Candidates for this role need to be self-motivated and highly organized. Furthermore, candidates need to have strong communication skills and the ability to work diligently and cross-functionally to resolve open issues and disputes with customers. You will work collaboratively with the Accounting, Sales Operations, Supply Chain, and our fantastic retail partners to achieve results.

What you will be responsible for:

Maintain a detailed understanding of all agreed upon trade spend at a customer and deal level

Maintain a detailed understanding of all practices and opportunities related to OS & D deductions, partnering with the Distribution department on resolution

Lead a small team accountable for timely resolution and analysis

Work with customers and our A/R team to ensure customer deduction backup is received timely and follow-up when additional information is needed

Ensure deductions are properly categorized and coded to the correct customers, brands, spend category, deal codes, etc.

Perform in-depth analysis of all deductions received to validate that the deduction taken is in accordance with agreed upon terms and that the amount taken is accurate; maintain clear and detailed records of validation procedures performed

Dispute unapproved and inaccurate deductions with external customers in order to receive repayment; maintain strong customer relationships to ensure timely resolution

Convert customer deduction support to SKU level (as needed) and manage our internal SKU level trade spend database

Support the broader Vital Finance & Accounting team with monthly reporting and accruals and various ad-hoc projects

Who you are:

Associates Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field
-

3-5 years of experience in a financial analytical role
-

Experience with claims/deduction processing, inventory control, or warehouse management preferred

Detail and process-oriented

Affinity for continuous improvement and desire to make the role and function more efficient

Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs

Experience working with large ERP accounting software (NetSuite, SAP, etc.)

Ability to build effective working relationships with both internal and external counterparts

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
