What You'll Do Here:

The National Geographic Learning K12 Digital Content and Experience Team provides a competitive advantage to the development and design of our programs by fueling digital product creation. Our mission is to champion best-in-class digital experiences that inspire learning by leveraging National Geographic content, design, and technology solutions.

We are seeking a Digital Program Manager with a strong technical and creative aptitude and proven experience managing digital product development and production teams.

The primary responsibility of this role is to directly manage four Digital Producers in consistent digital product innovation, development, and production workflows with our K12 Product teams. The position will report to the Director of Digital Content and User Experience.

Key skill areas and responsibilities of the role include:

Digital Content Product Development: possess a strong instinct and interest in how content can be structured, organized, and delivered for the greatest scale and impact.

  • Develop best practices in content taxonomies, metadata tagging, and data management

  • Manage a team of Digital Producers in new digital product development through systematic workflows and discovery methodologies

  • Assign Digital Producers special projects for new features and functionalities on the platform and authoring tools

  • Developbest practices for how to optimize, aggregate and package assets for digital products

  • Create frameworks for cataloging and managing data and asset types

  • Lead product “proof of concept,” prototype, and “proof of process” development in partnership with content development, design, technology, QA, and user experience staff

Account Management: champion Product Directors, teachers and students as our primary clients; sincerely articulate and promote best-in-class digital product development and production in harmony with other teams; be frank yet tactful.Facilitate quality control.

  • Guide Digital Producers in development of clear, smart digital product requirements and prototypes

  • Develop prototype/vertical slice development workflows in partnership with the product team, UX/UI design, technology, operations, and QA

  • Assess user data to help inform digital content/product decisions

  • Integrate experts from other areas to provide guidance and support

Business Analysis: identify business challenges around digital content development and support

  • Define root causes/opportunities

  • Assign special projects to Digital Producers for creative problem-solving

  • Recommend actionable solutions that deliver results

  • Provide clear documentation for business need and business value

  • Integrate/activate experts from other areas to provide guidance, insight, direction, and ownership as needed

Project Management: exemplify clear and succinct project and team management, bringing together cross-functional teams for on-time, on-budget results.

  • Guide Digital Producers in development of digital product project scope, tracking, requirements, and specifications

  • Communicate digital project status and expectations to all stakeholders across all lifecycle steps

  • Identify issues and mitigate quickly, with a strong sense of diplomacy and urgency

  • Integrate experts to provide guidance & needs

Process & Workflow Development: proactively identify areas of improvement throughout the digital product lifecycle and humbly offer potential solutions.

  • Successfully facilitate buy-in from other teams

  • Integrate experts from other areas to provide guidance and needs

  • Provide continuous improvement across product development, production, UX/UI, and technology focused on innovations for new products

  • Develop systems that streamline and organize the current nascent digital deployment process

Skills You Will Need Here:

Qualifications

  • BA in Media, Business, or Technology discipline

  • Experience (10+ years) as a Program Manager or Senior Digital Producer in digital publishing, broadcast, agency, and/or software development

  • Experience managing direct reports and supporting their development and success

  • Experience leading digital innovation and/or rapid prototyping

  • Experience facilitating collaboration among diverse partners, including content developers, designers, technologists, marketers and the sales organization

  • Ability to learn and consolidate complex concepts, processes and ideas, and synthesize them to help create understanding and commitment to new development processes

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Detail-oriented, with focus on accuracy, quality, and accountability

  • Self-directed and comfortable working in an ambiguous environment

  • Team player with a “we” approach to success

  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects at once
