Director, Medical Administration
Correctional Health Services, BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services, Vancouver

This role will provide leadership in the successful planning and implementation of medical administration initiatives related to the delivery of physician services. Working within the framework and directions of Provincial Health Services Authority Strategic Plan and the BCMHSUS Service Plan, in support of the organization's Vision, Mission and Values, the Director is accountable to develop and implement the strategic direction related to physician resources and medical affairs for BC Mental Health and Substance Use (BCMHSUS), an agency of the PHSA.
The Director reports to the BCMHSUS Vice President of Medical Affairs and Research and works collaboratively with the Medical Directors and senior leadership team; manages the day to day operations of Medical Affairs; prepares and manages budgets for operational, capital, staff and physician related activities; handles physician related matters on behalf of the Vice President of Medical Affairs and Research and assists in the management of Medical Committees and subcommittees. The BCMHSUS portfolio includes the Correctional Health Services. Forensic Psychiatric Services, and Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services.
The Director works collaboratively with the Manager of the Office of the Director (Vice President, Medical Affairs & Research) for the monitoring of all court, Criminal Code, BC Review Board and BC Mental Health Review Board related matters, including scheduling, communication, implementation of tribunal decisions and identifying potential clinical and legal outcomes requiring a response to ensure the maintenance of a positive organizational profile. Additional responsibilities include coordinating the provision of sensitive clinical and legal documentation for internal and external stakeholders including the courts, Crown Counsel, BC Review Board, BC Mental Health Review Board, as well as provincial and federal ministries, and agencies and duties that support the work of the Vice President.

What you'll do

Provide strategic leadership in the implementation of physician services in an integrated health services delivery model; in collaboration with the Vice President, Medical Affairs & Research and the senior leadership team, develop and direct strategic planning, future visioning, goal setting and decision making processes and participates as a member of the BCMHSUS management team. Identify short, medium and long-term objectives, plans, programs and services.
Provide leadership to ensure the competitiveness and fairness of physician recruitment practices in order to attract and retain world class physicians. Develop strategies for physician recruitment in accordance with the overall strategic plan and in response to the requirements of the senior leadership team and committees.
Coordinate the implementation of physician planning and support initiatives within the context of the overall operational plans of BCMHSUS. Identify and develop strategies and action plans to implement initiatives relating to the delivery of the organization's health services.
Coordinate the development and implementation of proposals for new or expanded medical programs following a system and team based approach; monitor evaluation of existing programs to ensure effective resource allocation and/or the development of new funding sources.
What you bring

Master's Degree in a related discipline such as Health Care Administration or Business Administration.
At least ten (10) year's recent related progressive experience in a senior administrative position within health care administration or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
