LaGuardia Community College is seeking a Education Specialist Assistant for the SYEP Summer Bridge 2020 program, which will run for five-weeks, beginning July – August. The SYEP Bridge dynamic and highly engaging virtual program will offer opportunities to learn new skills, explore potential careers, and earn money this summer.
Under the general supervision of the Senior Education Specialist, the position provides virtual instruction to youth, in groups of varying sizes. Utilizes personal work experience, creative accomplishments, life enrich course curricula. Utilizes traditional as well as state of the art on-line delivery methods. May be required to deliver classes or training sessions on-line in a virtual setting using web technology, in real time or asynchronous, or utilizing distant-learning strategies; sessions may be recorded for later transmission. Following curricula guidelines, develops instructional plans and materials; uses and incorporates prescribed materials as requested.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate competency in teaching computer courses at the beginner and advanced levels in virtual settings
Obtain measures of student knowledge pre- and post-workshop.
Specify equipment and support needs well in advance; confirms schedules and online platforms for virtual classroom instruction.
Assume responsibility for managing the instructional session and responds in a professional manner to any student needs/requests.
Reports to the Senior Education Specialist and collaborates with the Education Specialist, Engagement Coordinator, and Service Learning Specialists on student issues associated with online instructional problems.
Assist the Program Coordinator and other program staff by providing information for reports and program evaluations.
Maintain attendance records, student assessment evaluations and other designated reporting procedures for use in scheduling and reporting student outcomes.
Submit instructional summaries and activity reports as required.
Input and update client information into program database, YEPS
Observe established security measures regarding access to confidential records.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
Complies with department deadlines; submits timesheets as required.
Participates in sessions to generate ideas for program improvements and attends staff meetings.
Debriefs the supervisor and/or sponsor following completion of a program.
Performs the duties of lower level positions when necessary.

Bachelor’s degree required
Two (2) years’ experience in classroom setting as instructor teaching computers,
Demonstrated skill in communicating with adult students and facilitating their learning including: keyboarding; Internet research and email; MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access..
Skill in adapting curricula to meet the needs of students and capacity to share
Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to work on a team, as well as work independently adaptations with colleagues and in writing.
Experience working with diverse populations of adults from pre-college to college.
Ability to respond calmly to emergencies and to fashion solutions to student, administrative, or technical problems; ability to seek assistance when needed.
Good computer and strong written and oral communication skills required.
