Job Description

General Summary

Provides nursing assessment and treatment to all employees including coordinating physical examinations, ordering of appropriate tests, evaluation and treatment as well as follow-up care for both work related and non-work related injuries and illnesses. Monitors Worker's Compensation claims. Assesses medical reports and assists in determining long term disability and sick pay eligibility.

Principal Responsibilities

Determines fitness for duty.
Tracks TB screening records for all employees.
Coordinates proper and prompt handling of our workers compensation claims and processes.
Using nursing diagnosis skills, assesses and treats, according to standing orders, work related and non-work-related injuries and illnesses.
Administers the Hazard Communication Program.
Performs all OSHA recording.
Administers the Respiratory Protection Program.
Works collaboratively with Infection Control Nurse to monitor and control employee infections that may affect the health of other employees or patients.
Performs pre-placement screening history, exam and testing as necessary for each position.
Evaluates physical condition of employees returning to work after an illness.
Keeps database updated as to current activity status.
At least quarterly, do a screening for employees due for tests in that quarter.
Follows through with employees who did not comply with screening notices.
Notifies department directors of non-compliance.
Coordinates administration of all Worker's Compensation benefits, provides nursing assessments, evaluations and recommendations involving disability claims and employee eligibility for sick pay.
Monitors absence and restricted duty dates.
Monitors medical and indemnity payments and reserves setting.
Coordinates return to with department heads, especially if work restrictions are involved.
Notifies department heads in writing of absence due to a claim or of return to work status.
Provides nursing assessment and treatment and/or appropriate triage of employees with acute non-work related injuries or illnesses.
Takes thorough medical employee history.
Performs baseline testing to elicit objective complaints.
Assesses subjective and objective symptoms.
Recommends course of treatment or makes referral to a physician.
Makes sure all departments have the most recently updated HCP manual.
Sends a copy of the department inventory to each department head to be updated on an annual basis
Keeps chemical inventory database current based on feedback from departments.
Keeps OSHA log form 200updated with all current reportable cases of work related incidents.
Keeps OSHA 200 updated as far as totals for days lost and restricted duty days.
Posts year end summary sheet at all locations during the month of February each year.

Coordinates with department heads to have identified staff examined and tested annually.
Arranges for fit testing to be done for all employees, and provides in-service training as needed on respiratory protection.
Makes nursing assessments.
Provides appropriate level of treatment and/or coordinates treatment with private physicians.


Provides counseling and appropriate referrals to assist employees with health or personal problems that may affect their work performance.
Prepares, recommends, administers budget.
Develops policies and procedures for Employee Health Services.
Follows current literature and standards regarding Occupational Health and Safety.
Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.

Reporting Relationships

1. Reports to Director, Employee Engagement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Knowledge of physiology, anatomy and nursing practices and procedures acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Must possess current license in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.
Work requires knowledge in assessing and responding to multitude of employee health problems normally acquired through one to two years of work experience.
Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with employees, physicians, administrators and workers compensation insurance carrier representatives.
Analytical skills necessary in order to evaluate employees' needs and state of health, take appropriate action or refer employees to appropriate sources.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to fifty percent of work time in resolving employee health care problems and dealing with Hospital employees, sometimes in stressful situations.
Requires motor coordination to allow for preparation and administration of injections.

Working Conditions

1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
