Firmware FPGA Design Engineer

We are searching for a senior firmware engineer to develop the embedded firmware that controls and monitors high speed integrated optical transceivers.  Working with the controls, radio-frequency integrated circuit, photonic integrated circuit, module, and test teams, you will be responsible for the overall firmware architecture and implementation.  The ideal candidate for this role is a senior engineer experienced with real-time embedded monitoring and control using SoCs and FPGAs.  


  • Design of the overall firmware architecture

  • Develop embedded firmware for real-time control and monitoring

  • Develop host PC software for debug and to support design-verification-testing

  • Support field applications engineering for the design-in of our products into customer systems

Key Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of real-time operating systems, such as FreeRTOS or similar.

  • Strong C development experience for embedded products

  • Experience with scripting languages such as python or similar

  • Experience with FPGA development (Verilog or VHDL)

  • Proficient with basic test & debug practices over serial interfaces (JTAG, I2C, etc.)

  • 5+ years of related experience

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Optical Interconnecting Forum and/or IEEE management interface specifications for optical transceivers

  • Familiarity with circuit design techniques 

  • GUI development, such as with PyQT or similar

  • Windows device driver development for test instrument interfaces

  • Experience with fiber-optic test instruments: lasers, power meters, optical spectrum analyzers
