Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure and Network Operations, the incumbent
actively takes a technical leading role in transforming functional requirements
or a system into a set of architectural and design documents that can be used
by a project s technical team for implementing a solution.
The technical lead is responsible for matching the appropriate technologies to
the problem being solved while ensuring that the proposed solution aligns with
the College s longer term strategies and goals as laid out in the College
enterprise architecture and guiding principles.
This position ensure the overall responsibility for the security, efficiency,
effectiveness, evaluation, utilization, modernization and interoperability of
clients, software, servers, networking, inter/intranet and data communications
This resource is also responsible for assisting in the development and
maintenance of the College s system and enterprise architectures and guidin
principles for system deployment and operation.
This resource provides technical support for the College s computing
Server Administration and/or Maintenance and Systems Technical Leadership
* Incumbent provides technical leadership to the technical and project
teams developing and enhancing the College s technical and applicatio
* Maintains a detailed knowledge of all College operating and application
systems, internet, networking and data communications. Has an in depth
understanding of networking, application components and development
environments, security, and various technologies critical to the
continued operation of the College s technical infrastructure.
* Assesses the capabilities and deficiencies of emerging technologies
regarding College s technical infrastructure. Tests, plans and
integrates such appropriate technologies in support of the College s
Operating Systems and Server Tuning, Configuration, Support and Deployment
* Advises technical resources on the security, reliability and availability
of the College s technical infrastructure by: reviewing system
performance and capacity; providing feedback on tuning and balancing
system throughput; reviewing system design and operational procedures.
* Identifies and resolves software and hardware (Windows and Network
Operating System) problems and failures.
* Responsible for identifying and aiding in the procurement of appropriate,
complex system components and software.
* Liaises with technical staff of vendors of hardware and software for
computer systems to resolve issues or determine appropriate solutions to
client business requirements.
* Acts as technical resource to Information Technology Services staff and
other College clients for the selection, acquisition and deployment of
hardware and software systems and technology.
* Assesses the technical capabilities and deficiencies of networking
applications and utilities with regard to College internetworking
requirements and to their deployment on both the College s main netwo
and various LANs/WANs.
* Provides support and configuration to the College s directory
infrastructure including Active Directory and related components.
Project and Technical Leadership
* As the System Administrator Technical Lead, the incumbent analyses,
designs, develops and integrates a variety of technological and security
applications to support both administrative and academic objectives of
* Consults with various levels of staff throughout the College to define
system requirements, determine feasibility of the system(s) and
alternatives to meet organizational demands.
* Provides updates on projects and activities related to system deployments
as well as assistance and guidance to other ITS technical resources
Other duties as assigned
* Three (3) year diploma/degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science,
Information Technology or equivalent
* Microsoft MCSE and/or MCSA certification
* Minimum eight (8) years experience:
o Extensive working experience with a wide variety of complex
technical infrastructure including server hardware, virtualization
platforms, storage solutions, and networking components.
o Very familiar with operating systems and systems administration on
a variety of platforms.
o Well versed in enterprise architecture components, system design
o Demonstrated in-depth technical knowledge of supporting and
administering Microsoft Windows servers in a large complex
o Demonstrated experience with Windows server:
# Active Directory and DDNS.
# Experience in supporting multi-tier web-based applications
required with large complex systems. Experience configuring
and tuning servers and experience with different data and
# Data management infrastructures such as experience with SAN
systems, NAS Systems, or iSCSI.
# Database administrator to Microsoft SQL server or equivalent.
# Administering web services such as IIS or equivalent (such as
# Knowledge of LAN communication protocols (TCP/IP).
* Experience designing test plans and evaluating effectiveness
* Participation in knowledge sharing and mentorship
* Proven success with projects involving the skills and technologies above,
with a portfolio of references to speak for the work
