Position Information

Miller Technology High School is situated in the south-west of Sydney in a diverse and culturally rich community. The school has a student population of 730 with 80% from Language Backgrounds Other than English (LBOTE) and 7% Aboriginal students.

There is an Intensive English Centre (IEC) onsite that provides English instruction and cultural orientation for new arrivals, refugees and international students.  A Support Unit, established in 2015, comprises of classes for students with mild/moderate intellectual disabilities and classes for students with autism.

The school has a strong focus on quality teaching, literacy, numeracy, engagement and connected learning to meet the needs of all students.  Positive Behaviour for Learning (P4BL) has a high profile within the school to provide education in a safe and friendly learning environment.

Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach Technology Mandatory (Years 7-8). Experience in the supervision of Stage 5 and 6 TAS courses. Approval to teach or preparedness to undertake VET teacher training in any vocational educational & training subject, providing the qualification entry benchmark is met.

Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead staff at all stages of their career and promote professional learning and quality teaching practices which enhance a culture of high expectations for teaching and learning.

Demonstrated experience and expertise in leading the development and implementation of innovative and differentiated teaching and learning programs and quality assessments designed to engage and support students with diverse ability levels and learning needs, including Aboriginal students and students from EAL/D backgrounds.

Capacity to work collaboratively with the executive team to lead, manage and implement whole school processes and initiatives that address department, school and faculty priorities.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
