Job Description

The work is to be undertaken:
  • With women exiting prison
  • With women on remand
  • With sentenced women

The position is required to work within the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Ravenhall and requires extensive networking and communication with Victorian housing and support services in the community. The position requires an ability to work within a corrections environment and to engage with women prisoners, prison management and prison program staff.

The Housing Outreach Officer will be based at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, Ravenhall and at the WHL office in Cremorne. During COVID - 19, you may also be required to work from home.

Women's Housing Ltd (WHL) is the sole specialist women's Housing Association in Victoria that provides Transitional Housing, Long Term Housing, housing information and referral, and housing advocacy services for women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Women's Housing Limited focuses on human rights, particularly the basic rights of women (and their children) to secure safe and affordable housing. Since our establishment in 1997, we've been listening to and validating women's experiences, and acting as their voice in the housing sector.

Domestic and family violence continues to be the major driver of homelessness and escaping family violence is the most common reason provided by people who seek help from specialist homelessness services. Without a safe place to call home, no victim of family violence can help to rebuild her life or the lives of her children. Housing must therefore be the founding plank for any successful response.

Women's Housing Limited develop, build and manage a range of housing options for single women and women and children. Women's Housing Limited also provides a telephone advocacy service to women who are experiencing homelessness and work with women at the Dame Phyllis Frost Prison.

Qualifications and Experience

  • IAP experience desirable
  • Previous experience in IAP or a community services role (housing/homelessness specific desired)
  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act
  • Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences or similar (inc. Dip. Of Community Services)
  • Case management experience
  • Client management skills
  • Driver's license
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check and Working with Children Check
