WHAT DOES A LEAD TAX EXAMINING TECHNICIAN DO? As a Lead Tax Examining Technician, you will serve as the work leader for a team of tax examiners. In this role, you will carry out a full range of administrative and technical assistance. This work involves a diversity of issues related to a wide range of tax processing regulatory requirements and procedures administered by the Internal Revenue Service. As a lead, you will provide training, quality review and be an instructor or on-the-job instructor. In this position, you will lead and/or participate in team discussions, provide a positive environment and use sound judgment in resolving work issues.
As a Lead Tax Examining Technician, you will: Distribute, balance, monitor and report workload in accordance with established workflow or job specialization and maintain your own assigned inventory.
Assure equitable distribution among employees and timely accomplishment.
Amend or reject work not meeting established standards.
Maintain current knowledge of procedures, policies and directives to provide employees both classroom and OJT instructions.
Resolve simple informal complaints.
Complete unit quality reviews, provide reports on performance, progress and training needs of employees.
Make suggestions concerning personnel actions and recognition of outstanding performance. Provide feedback to the manager regarding employee performance when standards are not met.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.GS-9 LEVEL: You must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to theGS-08 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: experience working/adjusting individual and/or business accounts, applying tax law, regulations, practices, tax forms, notices, bills, and other documents relative to this position. Identifying organizational functions, terminology, quality assurance techniques and reporting requirements in order to coordinate workflow and resolve related problems; reviewing and applying administrative policies, procedures and functions to provide support for processing the work. Experience identifying the nature and scope of complex problems or issues (e.g., identity theft, manual refunds, carrybacks/forwards); make appropriate adjustments to accounts, and advise the taxpayer of options for resolutions. In addition, you should be familiar with on-line systems, research materials, technology and tools to resolve taxpayer's inquiries/issues.-The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part- time work is considered on a prorated basis.-To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week, on your resume.You must have been at the next lower grade level of the grade you are applying to for 52 weeks (GS-08)(time-in-grade requirement).
