While we are navigating the current Covid-19 situation, most of our staff is working remotely. This position will require some on-site time with specific team members, and Crafts Group is following all required and recommended guidelines to provide a clean and safe work environment for those who do come into the office. Our teams will continue to primarily telecommute until we return to working in our newly remodeled office space later this year.

THE CHALLENGE AND THE OPPORTUNITY
Crafts Groups Direct to Consumer (DTC) Quilt Division houses two of the industrys most highly regarded DTC quilting brands, Connecting Threads and Superior Threads. These brands serve quilters far and wide with the highest quality products on the market via e-commerce, catalog mailings, and consumer shows. Our development and merchandising cycles are creative, fast-paced, and collaborative.
As our Quilt Division Creative Director, you will execute our brands aesthetic vision in print and on web, and through our major marketing channels, including our website, catalogs, emails, and social media. Youll inspire and mentor a team of designers to create their best work, and as a skilled designer yourself, you will lead by example. Youll work closely with a team of photographers to create compelling visuals that communicate both our products and our brand stories.
You already know excellent, on-target work happens collaboratively, and you will work closely with the Marketing Brand Manager to create visual communications that enhance the overall brand strategy. You will become deeply invested in our brands visions, and you are a curious, creative thinker who recognizes trends in the industry and is always looking for ways to improve, promote, and grow our brands.
The DTC Quilt Division team is a group of dedicated crafters, designers, photographers and web builders, working together to drive product development, publish our catalog, drive e-commerce, produce learning content, and support the development of the quilting industry at-large. We are exceptionally collaborative, supportive, thoughtful, and passionate about supporting each other and serving the diverse quilting market. We are a team of people with big ideas who talk openly and candidly with each other, but always with kindness and respect.
This position works closely with the Brand Marketing Manager, and manages direct reports.
THE SKILL SET
Creative vision and the ability to communicate and inspire through design.
Experience leading other designers, and the ability to inspire and mentor the design team to create their best work.
5+ years experience in a graphic design role, including print and digital.
Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Flexibility and willingness to complete work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to self-start and manage workflow to meet all deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively, ask questions, and respond to constructive feedback.
Emotional intelligence and genuine leadership instincts and skills, dedication to continued growth and development.
Exceptional delegation skills, but an understanding that Thats not my job is antithetical to our culture. Youre not above or afraid rolling up your sleeves and getting to work.
Within 1 month, you will:
Learn the catalog production schedule and the deliverable routing and proofing processes.
Understand, direct, and execute our photo-styling and design standards.
Develop an understanding of the catalog production and product launch schedules.
Develop a close and collaborative workflow with the Marketing Brand Director.
Become familiar with our web platforms and social media, develop an understanding of our visual communications.
Become familiar with our brand guidelines and voice.
Review current workflow.
Within 3 months, you will:
Have developed a solid understanding of brands customer personae and brand voice.
Have developed a solid understanding of brands marketing initiatives and strategic positioning.
Begin to develop a comprehensive understanding of the quilting industry at large, including customer demographics.
Be able to present - through your work and your direction to other designers and photographers - the Connecting Threads and Superior Threads brands effectively through the use and development of typography, photography.
Begin to examine better workflows.
Within 6 months, you will:
Begin to propose new and creative ways to develop and improve brands aesthetics, including typography, photography, and design.
Be regularly proposing new and creative ways to reach our customers through visual communications and photography.
Propose and implement any workflow changes identified in your review of our current practices.
