Mental Health Promotion Specialist
1 Contract Part-time position - 28 hours per week
(Sarnia Site)
The Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent Branch is a proud community agency
serving the mental health needs of Lambton County and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

mental health, CMHA Lambton Kent provides services and facilitates access to the resources
people require to maintain and improve mental health. Our efforts promote community
integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.
This position is responsible for the day-to-day activities of an education and support program
dedicated to enhancing and supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of the
residents of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent and Lambton County through: identification of
need, development, promotion, and delivery of education programs specific to mental health
and mental illness
Reporting to the Manager of Communications and Fund Development, the incumbent will be
responsible for the following functions:

Scheduling, organizing and implementing seminars, educational series, presentations,
workshops and special events for target populations to include school, workplace and the
community at large.
Providing information pertaining to agency activities and mental health topics/issues and
referral to appropriate services as required.
Promoting community awareness of agency programs and services through
presentations.
Provide media submissions and/or interviews, as directed and approved by the Program
Manager
Represents CMHA and the mental health interests on external committees and task
forces
Compiling monthly, quarterly and annual statistical summary reports and other records of
program activities in accordance with agency policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in Social Work from an accredited university with current
registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers; a
Registered Nurse with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (preferably
with Canadian Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing) or Post-secondary degree
in a Relevant Discipline (with a current Certification in Addictions Counselling (ICADC)
would be an asset).
Knowledge and understanding of serious mental illness that is usually gained by experience
working with this population.
The candidate will work with other professionals using strong problem solving and
communication skills.
A valid drivers license, and use of a vehicle, which will be used in conducting agency
business, is required.

Skills required:
Suicide Prevention and Education would be an asset
Must have knowledge of serious mental illness and trends in the provision of support
services to adults with serious mental illness
Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, as well as relevant legislation specific to individuals
with a serious mental illness
Planning and organization skills to facilitate advocacy and support coordination/service
access.
Knowledge of the support/treatment services network in Lambton County and of regional
services commonly accessed by the program
Extremely well developed written and verbal communication skills
Strong understanding of social media platforms
Working knowledge of computers with skill in the use of email and Microsoft Office
Familiarity with e-communication tools including website and graphic design principles and
with social media platforms
Ability to apply creativity and recommend strategies for engagement initiatives in response
to cultural and social trends
Intermediate graphic design and video editing skills

Proficiency in both official languages will be considered an asset

Hours of Work: 28 hours per week. Flexible hours including days, evening and weekends are
required to meet the position requirements.
Salary: Commensurate with experience within the range: $28.67 $34.88 per hour
