This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for Nurse (Obstetrics) in the Women Infant Service Line (WISL) at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona and will report to the Supervisory Nurse onsite. Obstetrical Nurses apply established professional nursing concepts, principles, and practices to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care of pre-natal, laboring, post-partum, and newborn patients presenting in triage and inpatient settings.
Utilizes the nursing process to identify individual patient needs and to develop, implement and evaluate plans of care for Obstetric and Newborn patients. Provides professional skilled, competent nursing care specific to age of the patient (adult, obstetric, pediatric, neonate) to meet physical, emotional, spiritual and social-cultural needs of the patient, by means of direct care and teaching. Initiates specific measures to intervene, especially when the well-being of mother and baby are threatened. This may include emergency delivery of the baby, delegation of assignments, and assuming responsibility in emergency situations. Documents observations, nursing interventions, responses to therapeutic measures and status of coordinated activities between nursing and other professional disciplines utilizing the approved hospital format. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician to include, but not limited to, medication administration, intravenous fluids, and blood transfusions. Operates and monitors specialized equipment such as external and internal fetal monitoring equipment, oxygen therapy equipment for obstetric and neonatal patients, cardiac monitors, IV pumps and regulators, suction, blood glucose monitors, etc.

Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. Alternative Work Schedule: May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuity of patient care. Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree From Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. ln addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below for the GS-09 grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-09 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) least one full year of specialized professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-07 grade level) performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Professional nursing experience in the independent assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive nursing care for a variety of acutely ill patients; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations. The nurse will progressively assume increasingly complex responsibilities to care for perinatal, obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal patients. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below for the GS-10 grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-10 Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) least one full year of specialized professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level) performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Specialized nursing experience managing the care of perinatal, obstetric, gynecologic, and neonatal patients with a wide variety of conditions. Experience in assessing the needs of high risk OB patients, prioritizing care, and working in a collaborative interdisciplinary team to address identified care needs. Experience coordinating and organizing a comprehensive nursing plan of care from admission through discharge. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
