Operations Lead (REMOTE)


Job Description

17a is hiring an Operations Lead to support the Founder and manage day-to-day operations of our small but mighty team, based primarily in Cincinnati. The role combines a mix of administrative support and operational process improvements, with room for growth in other areas as candidates are interested.

The role will be remote to begin due to COVID-19 safety precautions, but will be based in Cincinnati when in-person work has resumed.

The Operations Lead will be responsible for:

Administrative support (60%)

  • Assist Founder with scheduling, logistics, and other items as needed
  • Work with Founder and team to manage action items and to help drive execution for core team operations
  • Support operations of business finances, including tracking payments, invoices, and expenses
  • Maintain critical business requirements, including insurance, worker's compensation, employee benefits, tax documentation
  • Manage employee and contractor onboarding
  • Plan and organize team events
  • Maintain comfortable work environment through office management; set expectations for others
  • Support internal and external partners in all above team operations work with a 'meet you where you are', positive attitude
Process support (40%)
  • Lead operational set up of new processes and strategies that optimize company objectives
  • Operationalize new ways to continuously improve systems (e.g., transition of folder naming convention)
  • Spot ways to to drive collaboration, communication, and action across the organization, including improvement of the organization's operational processes, and related procedures or systems; create relevant documentation

More on 17a: We focus on service and tool design in public service delivery, working with government entities, adjacent players in the public sector, and end users to develop modern solutions for modern problems. We do program design for state agencies (e.g. new economic development innovation fund), pilot promising interventions for complex challenges (e.g. opioid addiction treatment), and develop tools at a proof of concept stage (e.g. automated criminal record clearing), operating on the core belief that we collectively have what it takes to make public services better.


You could be a great fit for this role if you have:

  • A home base in Cincinnati, OH
  • Prior experience acting as an Executive Assistant, or in an Operations/People role
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and a "figure it out" attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail
