About Free The Ballot: Free The Ballot is a multi-racial grassroots alliance of incarcerated people, their family members, friends and supporters who are organized to support each other and led by the Black and Brown communities most impacted by mass incarceration.
We work to build political power to support progressive movement politics at the ballot box and build people power to end mass incarceration and get our communities what we need. About The Role: We are seeking a passionate individual who wants to help build a movement.
As an organizer of Free The Ballot you will work closely with our steering committee of member leaders who have family members who are incarcerated in order to build the organization and you will help lead political canvassing efforts where we reach out directly to voters about our progressive anti-mass incarceration candidates. Before a COVID-19 vaccine this will likely involve leading a team of phone bankers as well socially distant outreach in the community.
After a vaccine it will involve leading a team to do door to door canvassing to connect with voters and build the movement. Responsibilities : -Help to lead a team of phone bankers/canvassers to have authentic, issue based conversations with potential voters about advancing progressive anti-mass incarceration politics at the ballot box. -Work with steering committee family member leaders to sign up new dues paying members to join Free
The Ballot. -Represent Free The Ballot at community based events and build relationships with people in the community.
-Along with the leadership team participate in meetings with other progressive organizations and build relationships with our movement partners in order to help build our alliances with other groups. You are someone with: -Average to good computer skills. The ability to learn a program to cut turf for the phone banking/canvassing team is a must.
We will train you and provide support until you get the knack of it, but ultimately you must be able to lead this work. -Ability to lead a team of canvassers and hold them accountable to the goals we set for them is a must. Leadership team will provide ongoing support for you in holding the canvassing team accountable, but ultimately the ball will be in your court.
-The ability to be self directed. We will collaboratively design a work plan with you at the beginning of the week and do an accountability check-in at the end of the week, but you must be able to move be able to move through your work plan and complete the tasks we set together. Compensation : Free
The Ballot s organizer will start off with $36,400. An extra 250.00 per moth that will be provided to help pay toward healthcare costs. People who are directly impacted by mass incarceration or who have a family member who was directly impacted by mass incarceration are strongly encouraged to apply.
Black and brown people who come from communities directly impacted by mass incarceration are strongly encouraged to apply.
