JOB TITLE: Racial Justice Fellow LOCATION: Philadelphia STATUS: Exempt; Full time SUPERVISED BY: Deputy Director JOB DESCRIPTION: Justice at Work seeks an attorney to join our dynamic statewide team of advocates working to advance workers rights in Pennsylvania. The Racial Justice Fellow will take a lead role in both organizational development work and in the client-based racial justice advocacy and casework.

The organizational development work will include coordinating and advancing the work of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee and working with management towards organizational goals related to racial justice. The Fellow will also be responsible for coordinating internal staff working groups focused on prioritizing advocacy opportunities using a racial justice lens and on coalition-building to advance a statewide race equity and justice agenda. The Fellow will work collaboratively with our advocates, other legal aid programs, and community partners to develop and advance a race equity agenda in the context of civil legal services.

The client-focused work may include individual cases, policy advocacy, and impact litigation. We anticipate that the Fellow will spend 50% of their time on organizational development work and 50% on client-based racial justice advocacy and casework. We are committed to all aspects of this role and will not let the casework overtake other priorities.

The fellowship is currently funded for one year, but we intend to fundraise for the position going forward. About Justice at Work: Justice at

We focus much of our work on Spanish-speaking immigrant and migrant communities living in small cities, towns and agricultural communities across the state.

We strive to center marginalized community voices and are working toward prioritizing racial justice in our advocacy and among our staff, board, clients and volunteers. Responsibilities: Organizational Development The Fellow, working in tandem with the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee and the Management Team, will: Assist with the development of policies and programs to attract, retain and promote a highly skilled, diverse workforce for the organization at every staffing level.

Oversee, support and help coordinate the work of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Committee, acting as point person for furthering ideas and dialogue around initiatives to advance racial equity in our casework and workplace. Collaborate with partner legal aid organizations in Pennsylvania as they also work to advance racial justice initiatives with their programs. Support and build an internal culture of learning, openness and transformation.

Assess and address potential barriers and develop strategies focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce. Overseeing the policies, trainings and initiatives that foster an open and inclusive work environment. Racial Justice Advocacy Coordinate an internal staff committee that will focus on identifying and prioritizing advocacy efforts in a coordinated way, using a racial justice lens.

Provide technical assistance to JaW advocates to incorporate a racial justice lens and anti-racism strategies in their areas of substantive advocacy. Casework: Provide high quality direct legal assistance to clients throughout Pennsylvania on matters such as housing, employment, consumer protection and immigration. Maintain a caseload commensurate with abilities and caseload difficulty.

Maintain the highest ethical standards as a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and regularly seek out information relating to changes to the relevant areas of law. Program Administration Comply with all applicable regulations, policies and grant requirements. Ensure that all timekeeping, client files, data and reports are accurate, complete, and timely.

Demonstrate dependability through good attendance, adherence to timelines and schedules, and regular communication with supervisor. Embrace and support our overall mission, standards, policies and procedures, and confidentiality guidelines. Required Qualifications: Juris Doctorate Degree; Pennsylvania Bar membership or ability to obtain Pennsylvania law license as soon as possible if hired; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to work well with a wide range of people; Ability to facilitate and participate in challenging and uncomfortable conversations around race and systemic racism; Commitment to recognizing and promoting the dignity of all people; Valid driver s license and the ability to travel independently for off-site meetings, trainings and to engage in mobile advocacy, in a rental car provided by us; Ability & willingness to adjust work schedules to meet client needs, including weekend and evening work; A sense of humor!

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent relationship management skills; Excellent Spanish language skills are strongly preferred; Knowledge of employment, immigration, consumer, and/or landlord/tenant laws; Experience representing clients in administrative proceedings, state court and/or federal court; Experience working with farmworker, migrant and/or immigrant communities; Experience working with individuals or communities experiencing structural oppression and/or extreme poverty; Experience interviewing individuals who have experienced trauma; Comfort with public speaking in a variety of settings and to a wide range of audiences. Physical Requirements: This work requires the following physical activities: Sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; ability to speak and hear; or the ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation; Lifting (up to 25 pounds of files, supplies or minor office equipment); Requires substantial time spent typing; Requires driving for up to 4 to 5 hours at a time. Salary & Benefits: The salary range for this position begins at $55,000.
