RN - Labor & Delivery Internship


Job Description


PeaceHealth is seeking a RN - Labor & Delivery for a Full Time, Night position. Hourly compensation starts at $40.15, more depending on experience.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Internship to start August 2020

Length of Program: up to 36 weeks (May be extended or shortened, based on intern’s progress)

Program consists of:

  • Attendance at Northwest Perinatal Resource Network Consortium or onsite didactic.

  • This consists of eight- 8-hour didactic classes covering pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum and newborn care, high risk obstetrics, lactation and risk management.

  • PHSW on-site educational skill and didactic weekly sessions



  • Graduate of an accredited school/college of nursing.


  • One year of paid RN experience or new graduate RN accepted into the Residency Program


  • WA State RN Licensure with Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; NRP STABLE, and completion of AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring course (online) prior to completion of training program.

  • ACLS required prior to completion of the training program.

Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate clinical information; strong analysis/problem solving skills; strong organization skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team; computer skills; ability to teach; knowledge of nursing processes and practices.


  1. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care needs.

  2. Documents patient care in the healthcare record according to established standards.

  3. Directs and delegates care to other team members in accordance with their education, credentials, and demonstrated competence.

  4. Ensures own professional effectiveness through education and professional development.

  5. Participates in the development of and maintains established hospital policies, procedures and objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection prevention program.

  6. Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Demonstrated ability to promote positive interpersonal relationships and patient/family centered work environment

  • Able to support and interpret medical center philosophy, policy and procedures

  • Basic computer skills


  • Work requires active physical exertion up to 33% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 80 lbs. or less.

  • Work requires frequent exposure to minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments.

  • Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids once per month or more.

  • Duties require the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail (more than 65% of work time).
