Reporting to the Director, Clinical Adoption and Integration, the Senior Leader, Provincial Education, is a leader, an innovator, knowledge translator and change agent accountable for promoting excellence in clinical education, which is critical in order for the agency to meet its mandate to provide specialty care. The scope of practice of the Senior Leader is broad and complex working across clinical programs at the assigned agencies to provide education leadership for the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of education programs that contribute to the achievement of clinical program/Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) goals and objectives. The Senior Leader works in collaboration with others including Senior Directors, Program Managers, Department/Professional Practice Directors, clinical educators, clinical coordinators, professional practice leaders, advisory committees, relevant stakeholders and external partners to ensure that clinical education programs for students and new and ongoing staff meet current and emerging learning needs and ensure development of appropriate competencies. This role promotes inter-program and inter-professional collaboration and the integration of care, research and education within the assigned clinical programs. This role provides leadership to advance clinical education practice and ensure that education programs and practices are evidence-based, high-quality and supported by available technologies and resources. The Senior Leader works with managers to integrate patient and family education competencies in the competency framework for staff orientation and development.

What you'll do:
Provide education leadership, consultation, guidance and support to clinical programs from across BC, particularly those focused on the designated area, on learning needs assessments, curriculum design, materials development, individualized learning strategies, teaching techniques, strategies for on-the-job support of new virtual health initiatives and evaluation of education effectiveness.
Work collaboratively with provincial program leaders, and OVH clinical managers to identify program clinical education needs and priorities, and individually or as leader of a team, plan, implement and evaluate strategies to meet those needs.
Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of competency-based learning models for orientation and continuing virtual health education of staff, integrating these with professional practice standards and the performance management process. Responsible for assuring the development and updating of resources to support such education in order to assure staff competency and development.
Contribute to the overall leadership of provincial knowledge implementation as a senior member of the team by fostering a climate of continuous learning, participating in the identification of implementation goals and objectives and recommending new initiatives to the Director, Clinical Adoption and Integration. Collaborate with the Director, Clinical Adoption and Integration and other members of the team by providing information regarding current clinical issues and priorities, proposing recommendations which will advance virtual health education in a manner consistent with the overall strategic direction of the PHSA as well as current priorities.
Provide leadership across the Health Authority boundaries through coaching, guiding and modeling key behaviors/strategies, encouraging dialogue and problem solving and providing guidance and advice to facilitate resolutions to education issues.
Provide leadership for specific projects to address Health Authority wide virtual health clinical education needs, use of new educational technologies, instructor professional development workshops, support/training for preceptors, integration of education into practice, and education research.
Provide consultation to the clinical programs throughout BC regarding virtual health clinical education needs and issues to promote quality clinical education practice and staff development.
Develop collaborative arrangements or contracts with universities and colleges and other external education providers to support student virtual health education at PHSA in nursing and in other health professions.
Plan, prioritize, monitor, report and make recommendations regarding operating, capital, external project and special purpose funds.
Develop specific proposals for internal and external funding to meet clinical education needs.
Pursue formal relationships (including qualifying for joint academic appointments) with academic programs in university or college settings, with professional associations, and with other organizations. Precept and mentor students at an undergraduate and graduate level from several different professions. Mentor and assist other staff in ing for academic joint appointments, as required. Initiate and participate in community development initiatives and provides support for the development of virtual health education initiatives or conferences aligned with organizational, provincial, and program priorities. Teach, facilitate and coordinate outreach programs.
Further the goals of training implementation and the agency with active participation at meetings and forums that address professional practice and clinical education issues pertaining to virtual health.
Maintain and share knowledge of current trends in education, health care and/or virtual health by reviewing literature, attending relevant conferences/continuing education, liaising with external organizations and members of professional associations, staff, and colleagues, and keeping abreast of educational technologies and applications.
Represent the team on external committees and with external bodies. Participate in internal, local, provincial and national committees/projects on an ongoing basis.
Research evidence informed and leading practices in education and integrate evidence informed models from other organizations, as appropriate, related to clinical education.
Perform other related professional duties as required.

What you bring:
A Master's Degree in Education (Adult Education, Education Leadership) or pertinent clinical discipline, with a 5 years of solid clinical experience after completion plus 3-5 years of progressively more senior experience in education program planning and delivery in a health care setting. Specific knowledge and experience in virtual health.
Demonstrated skills and abilities as follows: Ability to design, develop and implement: learning needs assessments, curriculum, learning materials, a broad repertoire of teaching techniques, practice integration strategies, and evaluation plans.
Ability to coach others on how to design, develop and implement: learning needs assessments, curriculum, learning materials, a broad repertoire of teaching techniques, and evaluation plans.
Project planning and management skills, ability to manage several projects concurrently.
Ability to lead and guide experienced staff in education matters and speak to clinical education issues with senior staff and PHSA executives.
Facilitation of cross-program priority and goal setting, coordinated and collaborative planning and implementation.
Innovation and flexibility in the design and delivery of education supporting the use of a variety of delivery formats including distance delivery technologies.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and communicate effectively with others at various levels of the organization and across programs.
