Job Summary Position responsible for assisting surgeons in performing surgical procedures.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a surgical technology program

Licenses/Certifications:Certification from National Surgical Assistants Associationorthe Association of Surgical Technologists

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

Principal Accountabilities
Assists physicians in performing surgical procedures by providing support such as: exposure, homeostasis, retracting tissues, clamping and tying vessels to control bleeding, keeping the operative site dry, closing the incision by applying sutures and wound dressings.
Assists in transporting patients when required.
Assists other members of the surgical team, including the anesthesiologist, anesthetist, operating room nurses and recovery room nurses as necessary.
Assists in preparing the operating room for cases.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
Other duties as assigned.
