Multimedia - Video Creation and Editor
The READ Center, an adult literacy program, has to cancel our READ Between the
Wines event. The event brought together students, donors, teachers, tutors and
staff to celebrate accomplishments. It was an opportunity for donors to meet
those whose lives they had impacted and meet the teachers, staff and tutors who
were helping make that happen.
The connection to our mission and gratitude we have for our donors' support
needs to be communicated online through words and pictures. We would like to
create a 5-10 minute video or several short videos to accomplish this. We are
requesting help with effective messaging, storyboarding the videos and how make
the video(s) effective (length, black and white vs. color, etc.). More than
73,00 adults in metro Richmond lack basic literacy skills. Low literacy
individuals struggle to find employment; they settle for low-paying jobs; they
fight to increase their earning power and to support their families. Unstable
employment leads to insecure housing, healthcare, family life and lack of
financial stability. The population READ serves has been hit hard both
financially and medically by the current pandemic.
READ is an Adult Basic Education (ABE) program primarily serving people who
were born, raised and schooled in the US, but still lack basic literacy skills.
READ's services include teacher-led classroom instruction supported by
volunteer tutors and volunteer tutors who work in 1:1 pairs or in group
settings. WHile READ's students are 18 years or old, 76% read at or below the
5th grade level.
Few skills influence an individual's ability to function and thrive in society
as much as one's ability to read. When individuals learn how to read, write, do
basic math, and use computers, they have the power to lift themselves out of
poverty, lower health care costs, find and keep sustainable employment, and
ultimately change their lives.
The READ Center will commit the Director of Develoment, Marketing and Admin
Coordinator and Executive Director the the project. We have a plan for the
ideas we want to communicate. We need help in doing so effectively online. We
have not done this before.
RBTW is held the week of National Adult Literacy and Family Education Week
which is the week of September 21 this year. We will send the videos to donors
and supporters who would have attended the event.
This project can be done remotely.
